Smart agriculture
In the complex world of agriculture, where countless variables can influence the outcome of a crop, the advent of data-driven technologies is proving to be transformative.
Semios, at the forefront of crop management innovation, is pioneering this shift with its comprehensive platform that synthesizes data from a network of farm sensors. Their advanced systems equip farmers with actionable insights, enabling them to make more informed decisions that enhance yield, reduce damage, and promote sustainability.
“
We're on a mission to empower farmers with highly reliable and actionable data. Through our collaboration with ST and their extensive portfolio, we're merging precision with simplicity.
”
Sumer Johal, CEO, Semios
Merging precision with simplicity is highly coveted yet challenging. Semios faced this head-on as diverse tech stacks and codebases complicated scaling efforts, necessitating the expansion of engineering teams to maintain progress. Yet, a significant turning point was reached with the integration of the STM32F4 MCU series—a high-performance microcontroller with integrated RF capabilities. Initially used for testing their smart pheromone system, it provided a crucial interface for camera integration, allowing quick product testing.
“
We needed solutions, not just chips, and ST’s integrated approach and libraries allowed us to focus on our unique value instead of low-level code.
”
Sumer Johal, CEO, Semios
To overcome the challenges of limited connectivity in remote areas, Semios opted for the STM32F4 MCU. The reason behind? The series uniquely supports integration with both Bluetooth and LoRa technologies. A combination that no other chip on the market was able to provide. This allowed Semios to not only connect farm sensors but also experiment with edge computing in areas without connectivity.
“
Data processing is happening on-chip, reducing reliance on cloud services, and boosting accuracy. This level of precision helps farmers use pheromones smartly.

Sumer Johal, CEO, Semios
Semios initially selected ST for the broad scale of product offerings within the
STM32 product family, allowing them to leverage their investments in code.
Semios also took advantage of ST’s extensive sensor portfolio, including MEMS and environmental sensors. Semios's journey illustrates the power of strategic partnerships and advanced technologies in revolutionizing farming practices. By simplifying complex data and making it actionable, Semios and ST are not just enhancing agricultural productivity but are also paving the way for a future where precision farming is the norm.
