STMicroelectronics Augments Digital Lifestyle in China

Latest technologies and products for the Internet of Things and a smarter world on display at electronica China Shanghai, China / 13 Mar 2015

STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, is showcasing its latest technologies and products for the Internet of Things (IoT) and a smarter world at electronica China in Shanghai New International Expo Center, Hall 3 Booth 3402, March 17-19, 2015. ST’s solutions help deploy microelectronics more widely, creatively, and cost-effectively, addressing key societal challenges as well as enriching people’s lives.

This year, ST’s booth offers an Internet-of-Things experience based on the Company’s broad portfolio of key components for the full range of IoT applications--from wearable, healthcare, and wellness to the smart home, smart city, and the smart car. The ST demonstrations at electronica China 2015 include:

  • A comprehensive range of the 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M0 and M0+, Cortex-M3, Cortex-M4, and Cortex-M7 STM32 microcontrollers with a great choice of peripherals. The 600+-part STM32 family includes the STM32L0,  STM32L1, and STM32L4 ultra-low-power MCU series that target battery-operated / wearable devices;
  • ST’s sensor portfolio includes Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) including accelerometers, gyroscopes, digital compasses, inertial modules, pressure sensors, humidity sensors, microphones, and actuators; smart sensors and sensor hubs, UV-index sensors, temperature sensors, and touch sensors;
  • ST’s BlueNRG ultra-low-power network processors embed the whole Bluetooth low-energy master and slave stack addressing Bluetooth Low Energy (or Bluetooth LE – BLE) and Bluetooth Smart solutions. The BlueNRG devices combine best-in-class current consumption, excellent wireless-link performance, and on-chip non-volatile memory that suits quick and easy firmware updates;
  • A comprehensive portfolio of tags that includes Dual-Interface EEPROM, NFC / RFID transceivers, and NFC / RFID tags that are based on the 13.56MHz carrier frequency and support the ISO 14443 and ISO 15693 RFID standards;
  • Solutions specifically designed for Automotive and Connected-Car applications from Powertrain, Electronic control units (ECUs), infotainment systems including navigation, car body electronics (lighting, heating, cooling, door modules, seat control), active- and passive-safety systems, steering and chassis solutions to hybrid and pure electric-vehicle solutions for charging, driving motors, and energy recovery;
  • Solutions that make factories, buildings, and many of the machines and appliances in them more power-efficient and autonomous. ST’s broad portfolio encompasses advanced power-conversion solutions, intelligent digital input/outputs, SPIN motion-control solutions, smart-metering, and STLUX™ LED drivers.
  • ST’s FlightSense™ technology-based products are packaged in a module that integrates a proximity-sensing Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) array and an Ambient Light Sensor (ALS), together with a Vertical Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) light source, greatly easing the product integration for the equipment manufacturer. Using the Time-of-Flight (ToF) principle, the FlightSense sensors output a high-accuracy absolute-range measure for a wide spectrum of applications that require competitive system cost, small package footprint, and low power consumption. Among these possible uses are industrial control, distance measurement in white goods, any type of robots, on-board computer control with gesture, proximity, and light detection, robot cleaners, as well as proximity sensing and autofocus assist in smartphones and tablets.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is widely accepted as the “Next Big Thing” and a burgeoning new market. Most closely impacting our lives, Smart Home and Smart Wearable are among the fastest growing IoT segments. Johnson Cao, Sr. Marketing Manager at STMicroelectronics’ Greater China Region will deliver a speech at the International Embedded System Innovation Forum co-located with electronica China 2015. He will talk about success stories and reference designs based on the 32-bit STM32 MCUs in a number of IoT/wearable applications including smart watches and smart bands, sensor hubs, smart home appliances and weather stations, Wi-Fi modules, smart metering, and smart medical. The International Embedded System Innovation Forum is taking place on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 from 09:00 to 11:45 at Room M24 in Hall E3, 2F, Shanghai New International Expo Center.
