Today's automotive brake-by-wire (BBW) technology is a promising braking control system that enables many new driver interfaces and enhanced performance without a mechanical or hydraulic backup. Consisting of electro-mechanical actuators and communication networks instead of conventional hydraulic or electrohydraulic devices, brake-by-wire technology offers several advantages over traditional hydraulic braking systems. In addition to enhanced safety and improved integration with existing systems, BBW systems reduce maintenance costs, improve fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions.
