These devices are a robust, reliable means of monitoring software code execution, or hardware failures, and can trigger appropriate action, such as system reboot, high-level interrupt generation and others.
Available in compact SOT23 and SC70 packages, watchdog timers can be added to space-conscious applications with minimal impact.
